First, thanks to Nebraskans involved in agriculture as we wrap up celebrating National Ag Week. Great Northern dry edible bean production is located in the Nebraska Panhandle. Nebraskans produced over 76 million pounds of dry beans in 2015. This represents 83% of the total U.S. production. Nebraska popcorn production represents about 45% of the total U.S. production. Nebraska farmers grew over 353 million pounds of popcorn according to the 2012 Census of Agriculture. Lastly, Nebraska farmland has more irrigated acres, just shy of 8.3 million acres, than any other state and represents 15% of the total irrigated acres in the U.S. based on the 2012 Census of Agriculture.
