Two local chemigation training sessions are being held for farmers who apply fertilizer or chemicals through an irrigation system. The Nebraska Chemigation Act requires that applicators must be certified by attending a course offered by the Nebraska Extension and must pass a 50 question written exam to verify their knowledge of the Chemigation Act requirements.
These rules are administered by each of the state’s 23 Natural Resources Districts (NRDs) and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ).
Certification is good for four years, after which renewals are required. Those needing recertification should have received a letter from NDEQ. If you are unsure of your license, you can look up your number and expiration year on the NDEQ website at https://deq-iis.ne.gov/zs/chemigation/main_search_chemigation.php
This training also works for those that have never had a license before. There is no cost to the training. Attendees should bring a No. 2 pencil and a calculator. Training will take 2 ½ to 3 hours.
Both trainings will be held in Columbus at Ag Park, which is located at 822 15th Street. Dates and times are:
Friday, March 1st at 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 5th at 6:00 p.m.
