KTIC Radio Extension Corner: Confronting Cropping Challenges Workshops

This is Dr. Nathan Mueller, your local agronomist with Nebraska Extension for Dodge and Washington counties. Nebraska Extension Agronomists, Aaron Nygren, John Wilson, and I will be conducting a new series of workshops for northeast Nebraska farmers. The new Confronting Cropping Challenges Workshop is for those wanting to learn more about crop challenges we had in 2016 and management options to deal with them in the 2017 growing season.

Four of the 6 workshops are still to come. The remaining workshop dates will take place on Friday, December 16th and Wednesday, December 21st. On Friday, December 16, from 9 am to Noon at the Fairgrounds Community Building in Stanton or from 1:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon at the Nielsen Center in West Point. On Wednesday, December 21st, from 9 am to Noon at the Dodge County Extension Office in Fremont or from 1:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon at First National Bank Northeast in Tekamah.

The topics covered during the first two hours of the workshop will be how to use more data to help with hybrid and variety selection, updates on new and problematic corn and soybean diseases, grain storage concerns, herbicide resistant weeds, and controlling input costs. If farmers need to get recertified for their private pesticide applicator license, you can stay an additional 1 hour for that training. This workshop will cost $10. Those seeking to renew their private pesticide applicator license will pay an additional $30 for the training. Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required, by calling the Burt County Extension Office at 402-374-2929.
