About alfalfa production in the region
Alfalfa is the third most grown crop in Saline, Jefferson, and Gage counties after corn and soybeans. It is estimated to be grown on over 19,000 acres in 2020. It is mostly grown on non-irrigated or rainfed acres in central Saline County in the Turkey and Swan creek watershed, west central Jefferson County south of the Little Blue River, and in other scattered areas throughout the three counties.
